#7 Portugal

What’s not to love on the Algarve

The Algarve, also known as the Golden Triangle, is the Southern region of Portugal, framed with miles of the golden coastline and quaint little villages. It is also packed with history and infectious culture. We went knowing we wanted to spend more time in the azure waters. We explored this in August and the sun was hot. Hot enough to send us straight into the water.

Fun fact: Portugal is the oldest country in Europe.

The beaches are surrounded by spectacular cliffs and hidden caves. The caves were so much fun to explore. You can reach the caves by boat, kayak, canoe, paddleboard, or swimming… if you are feeling really risky that day. We chose kayak as we wanted a more intimate experience with the caves. Boats couldn't get as far into the caves as we could. We were able to explore and really soak in the beauty. The Bengali Caves is what attracted us to kayak. Depending on the time of day, you can have the cave to yourself! It is so cool to me to think about how much of this earth is undiscovered because of popular spots like this. There is so much beauty, waiting to be found!

Seven Hangings Valley Trail was a gem. Clinging to the coastline the entire time gives you a new experience of the area. There are many gorgeous lookout points where you’ll see limestone stacks and natural arches. It was a great way to see the area we were staying in on foot and that was important to us. We want to be able to explore and not have to drive a car or take public transportation. The hike was just a few steps from our hotel. We went our for sunrise and the trail was always empty. It was so perfect to watch the glow from the sun change the colors of the stone and sea.

My favorite view was of Praia Do Marinha. I took a picture of the arch while we were kayaking on the bottom and then when we were thinking on the top. The illusion is great when you can your camera up perfectly. <3 The rock is called “M rock” but in my heart, it’s the love rock.

Thanks for exploring Portugal with me. Where is one place you’ve been wanting to explore? Let us know in the comment section.

Until our next adventure…

Reset. Adventure on.
