#9 Dubai, U.A.E.

We were in awe by the eclectic transformation of Dubai from a bedouin desert to an astounding metropolis. Immediately when we landed we could feel all the energy. People buzzing all around you and never stopping. Although the electric transformation seems like it’s everywhere, you can go a bit out of Dubai and find the desert. The tall mounds of sand dancing with the wind. Gently reminding you who the first boss was. The desert truly amazes me. The desert often invokes images of a vast expanse, a timeless space of beauty, wonder and longing. It shifts with your weight and adapts with your every move.

The traditional market looks simple until one starts window shopping and sees some of the most astonishing spices. The souks are located in the original heart of the city, where traders from all over the Middle East come to flog their wares. The souk is distinguished by its unique design method, as it is designed according to the heritage architectural system. All stores are one-story covered with wooden beams that were made from palm fronds, and since the souk is located on the bank of the creek, it used to facilitate commercial movement in the past. The ships dock on the creek, and workers carry the goods onto the souk. It’s so amazing to watch this supply chain system work.

You will never get bored in Dubai. You can explore The Dubai Mall, where you’ll find the Dubai Fountain and the Immersive Digital Van Gogh Art Gallery Infinity des Lumieres. You can explore the beaches or golf courses. The expansive amount of art that can be found all while you are exploring on foot. You can dine at the Arabian Tea House and fill your tummy with the most delicious hummous in the world. You can sip on tea and eat dates by the waterfront. Visit the mosques and bask in their beauty. Ride the elevator in the worlds tallest building at sunrise!!

Fun fact: The world’s tallest building, at 2,716 feet, the Burj Khalifa, is in Dubai.
