#21 Argentina
Situated across the Strait of Magellan and at the very tip of the South American continent, the Tierra del Fuego archipelago is often described as the “End of The World.” Ushuaia, Argentina, is where we ended our Antarctica trip. Founded in 1884, Ushuaia sits on the shore of the Beagle Channel against the backdrop of snow-capped Andes—an exquisite juxtaposition of sea, forest, and mountains. The channel is named after Charles Darwin’s boat, the HMS Beagle.
This isn’t a city to skip before or after an Antarctica trip. Stand along the waterfront, looking out over the Beagle Channel with a backdrop of snow-capped peaks, and you’ll certainly feel like you’re standing at the edge of a barren yet mesmerizing abyss. And in many ways, you are.
Until next time…
