#11 Hungary

Buda Lovin Pest.

Fun fact: Budapest, the capital of Hungary, was founded in 1873 by the merger of three cities: Buda, Óbuda and Pest! The “Old Buda”, Buda, is very hilly and is on the western part of the actual Budapest and Pest, which is flatter and on the eastern side of the city.  Of the three, Óbuda was the first to be built by the Celts until it was occupied by the Romans during the first century B.C.

Budapest is such a young city and has so much energy. Michael and I spent most of this trip, on walking tours. We go on at least one walking tour in every city that we visit because it’s fun to learn history that way. Our guide did such a great job explaining the history that we continued to walk with her every day! Budapest is very affordable and is a great city to start an eastern European tour. Public transportation is also great and very easy to use. We spent most of our time on foot or on scooters!

With the limited time we had, we adventured to:

  • Ruin Bars

  • Hungarian Parliament Building

  • Castle District

  • Buda Castle

  • Danube River Boat Tour

  • Shoes on The Danube Bank

  • Fishermans Bastion

  • Faust Wine Cellar

  • Jewish Quarter

  • Széchenyi Spa

Have you explored Budapest?

Until next time…
